About This Masterclass

This tutorial is an introduction to the use of AI to research and explore fishing spots and prime bite windows. It highlights some of the tools and techniques that I personally use for this purpose, which involves training the AI engines to understand the key information that needs to be considered in planning a successful fishing trip.

AI Prompts – Use case 1 (Forster fishing weekend)

I’m planning a weekend fishing trip to Forster/Tuncurry in April or May of 2024. I will be fishing from a kayak with lures and my target species will be trophy flathead but I am also interested in catching bream and jewfish, especially if there are times when the flathead fishing is likely to be quiet and these coincide with peak times for bream or jewfish fishing. I have uploaded fishing reports to provide information about the factors affecting when flathead bite in this area. I have also uploaded the tide times for Forster in 2024, plus the sunrise and sunset times. I prefer to fish for flathead in wind exposed places and for bream I prefer to be sheltered from the wind. I want you to identify the weekend in April or May that gives the best fishing opportunities, based on the information I have uploaded. Then I want you to create a weekend gameplan that will maximise my productive time on the water. The gameplan should include a list of spots to fish and the appropriate times to fish each of them, kayak launch spots that minimise paddling time to fishing spots, best lures to use at each spot and so on.

Refine this information. I want you to identify one weekend in the April/may period that will give me the best opportunities. Then for each day I want you to propose schedule that tells me which spots to go to and at what times based on my target species and the anticipated conditions. the fishing opportunities need to be kayak based with not too much paddling between spots. There should be a list of launch sites for each fishing session. I expect to spend 4-5 hours on the water each morning and 4-5 hours each afternoon. I would like a list of the most appropriate lures for each of these sessions.

give me an alternative gameplan in case any of those options is not fishing well or is unfishable for whatever reason. make the alternative game plan for the same weekend 3-5 may. the alternative plan should still focus only on flathead, jewfish and bream

create a kml file that contains the latitude and longitude of each of the spots listed in the plan and alternative plan

AI Prompts – Use case 2 (Forecasting prime fishing times)

I live in cairns and want to create a list of high priority fishing dates based on local knowledge about barramundi, mangrove jack and threadfin salmon behaviour on various tides. Barramundi are best targeted along coastal mangrove systems. On large tides they move onto flats where there are small drains. I prefer to fish for them on the last half of the run out tides when the water is drawing away from the mangroves and fish are moving back towards the river channel. Drop-offs from flats, creek mouths and eddies are perfect. Smaller neap tides or the building tides leading up towards the full or new moons are great for this. Another great opportunity is landbased fishing from the headlands, especially when high tide coincides with sunrise or sunset. Shallow bends on the inside of creeks, estuaries and trinity inlet are great on the last half of the incoming tide. Using vibes on fish holding deeper in creeks and the inlet is particularly good below rock bars on the outgoing tide. Mangrove Jack, ambush predators by nature, exploit the high tide to hunt among the mangroves, rocky outcrops, and submerged structures. Best tides are the smaller neaps and the building tides heading towards a new or full moon. In creek systems the fishing is usually better on the last half of the outgoing tide or the first half of the incoming tide, especially if these occur around dawn and dusk. The tops of tides, especially big tides, are hard to fish because the fish move too far back into the mangroves t be reached with a lure. Threadfin Salmon are adept at navigating the murky waters of river mouths and channels, often capitalizing on the outgoing tide to feed on disoriented prey. Big tides are perfect as they muddy the water. Runout tides on flats and along beaches fish best for threadfin, especially there are creek mouths and drains for fish to sit in and ambush prawns and baitfish. find me some prime times and locations to target each species based on this summation and the tide and sun data I've uploaded

give me specific days and times based on the information ive uploaded. restrict the priority fishing days and times to April and May 2024

AI Prompts – Use case 3 (Lake Eildon Murray Cod)

I'm planning to go murray cod fishing at lake eildon for 4 days in May. I want you to plan the perfect fishing trip and tell me which days to go, where to fish and what lures to use. Before you do that, please ask me ten questions that will help you to understand what I need you to do and to fill any gaps in your training set. I'll need to know times to fish, places to fish and lures to use.

**Fishing Experience:** How experienced are you with fishing, specifically targeting Murray cod? I’m an experienced angler but I haven’t caught a lot of Murray cod and I am specifically targeting big fish of one metre plus. I’ll need guidance on the water depths and structures to fish during that time of year as well as the specifics about what cod will be feeding on and their typical behaviours in Eildon during the month of May. All fishing will be lure fishing only, I won’t be using bait **Fishing Preferences:** Do you prefer shore fishing, kayak fishing, or boat fishing? This will be a boat fishing expedition. **Equipment Availability:** Will you be bringing your own fishing gear, or do you need recommendations on where to rent or buy gear locally? I’ll be bringing my own tackle and have a pretty good idea of what I’ll need, except for the lures. 4. **Catch and Release:** Is your intention to catch and release, or are you planning to keep your catch? Murray cod fishing should always be catch and release 5. **Travel Arrangements:** Are you staying near Lake Eildon, and if so, do you have specific accommodation preferences or requirements? I’m staying near the lake. I don’t need help with travel arrangements, accommodation, meals or the like, just with planning the fishing 6. **Weather Conditions:** Are you comfortable fishing in varying weather conditions, or do you prefer waiting for optimal weather forecasts? I’m there to fish and don’t care about my personal comfort. All that matters is what the prime times are for fishing 7. **Physical Mobility:** Do you have any physical limitations that we should consider when recommending fishing spots (e.g., accessibility)? No 8. **Dietary Restrictions:** Considering the trip's duration, do you have any dietary restrictions if we recommend local eateries or need to pack food? No, I’m only after fishing advice 9. **Budget:** What is your budget for this trip, including accommodations, fishing gear, and miscellaneous expenses? This not important, only fishing matters 10. **Additional Activities:** Are you interested in other activities around Lake Eildon besides fishing, or is fishing the sole purpose of your trip? Catching and releasing as many metre plus cod as possible is the only goal. I don’t require advice on permits, licenses or safety, I’m well aware of all of these

ok, but give me specific days around the new or full moon and map out a game plan for a full day of fishing
